Mrs. McHugh and Mrs. Godfrey May 21st-24th (no school Friday) A week – gym on Tuesday Character trait focus for May – trustworthiness
An enormous thank you to all of our classroom volunteers this year. The time has gone so quickly - I can't believe volunteering is over. Please look for an invitation to our Volunteer Recpetion and join the Genet staff so we can say thank you for all you do . Last week in kindergarten ~ ELA ~ Last week in kindergarten we continued our study of Eric Carle by reading more stories by the author and creating more beautiful art work. This week we spent more time practicing our play - in the auditorium on the stage ! Please take a few minutes each day to review your child's line(s) with him/her so they are confident in what they need to say. This week a formal invitation will come home with all of the details regarding the play. Last week we read Mister Seahorse, Pancakes! Pancakes! and The Very Clumsy Click Beetle. We wrote about a time when we felt clumsy , how we can be helpful ( like Mister Seahorse) and our own version of a pancake recipe ( which were VERY funny). Who knew so many different ingredients went into pancakes ! :) Math~ Last week we completed topic 11– Deomposing numbers 11-19. For the remainder of the year we will work on a topic called Step Up - which follows some 1st grade concepts and more challenging work - as well as a review of major concepts taught in kindergarten. When all topics have been assessed I will send home a coversheet that includes all of your child's math scores for the school year. I have been very impressed with the hard work and perserverance of the students with all of the difficult concepts presented this year. This week in kindergarten - We continue with more Eric Carle stories... My Apron , Rooster's Off To See The World, Secret Birthday Message and Today is Monday. We will also be practicing the play and continuing with our daily writing and guided reading groups. This week I will be participating in kindergarten screening ( remember when you came last year ? ) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs. Daoust will be subbing for me and I will be in the classroom occasionally to check in. Mrs. Godfrey will continue with her regular schedule in the classroom as well.
