Meet Mrs. Massey

My name is Marianne Massey. I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year. I look forward to getting to know you and your children. Here's a little bit about me.

Originally from Marietta, I attended all Cobb County schools. I attended Milford and Russell Elementaries, Garrett Middle School, and South Cobb High School. After graduation, I received my BSEd from the University of Georgia---GO DAWGS! While at UGA, I met my husband, Asa, who is also a teacher and Georgia grad. He teaches special education at Vaughan Elementary.  In 2004, I attended Kennesaw State University and obtained my MEd in Early Childhood Education. I taught first grade my first year at Frey and looped to second grade the following year. I have been teaching second grade ever since. This is my tenth year of teaching!

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have an eight year old daughter named Kaitlyn, a seven year old stepson named Jonah, and a one year old named Ireland. Kaitlyn is a third grader at Frey. Jonah is in second grade this year. We also have two dogs--a yellow lab named Massey and a miniature dachsund named Pepperoni. Kaitie enjoys jazz, and Jonah plays baseball. Both of our kids love swimming and playing soccer and tennis. We are extremely proud of our family and love to share pictures and stories about them all the time. Our family keeps us busy with their abundance of energy and activities, but we wouldn't have it any other way!

Some interesting facts about me:

*I don't have a middle name.

*I was named after my grandmothers--Mary and Annie.

*I was varsity captain and MVP of my volleyball team my senior year (even though I'm only 5'2").

*I won the Regional Cobb County Writing Fair in 6th grade for my poem, "Christmas Preparations."

*I was president of Kappa Delta Epsilon educational honor society at UGA.

*My husband and I have the exact same IQ (I'm really smarter though!).

*I love reality shows (Amazing Race, Hell's Kitchen, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, The Biggest Loser, America's Next Top Model, and Big Brother are my favorites).

*I received the Friendliest superlative my senior year.

*I also received the Ray Kroc award for outstanding senior.

*I love reading young adult mysteries like Nancy Drew, Christopher Pike, and Agatha Christie. I also read celebrity gossip magazines like People, OK, InTouch, and Star.

*I enjoy going to arts and crafts festivals.

*I love Mexican and Japanese food. Taki is my absolute favorite restaurant.

*My favorite movies are 80's movies. I have a collection of movies with the "Brat Pack."

*My favorite animals are butterflies. I have five (small) butterfly tattoos on my back. Each butterfly represents a member of my family.

*I really enjoy playing boardgames with my husband. Our favorites are Scrabble, Blokus, and Phase 10.

*Last, but not least . . . I love watching college football! We even have a room dedicated solely to the Georgia Bulldogs!
