HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT “HOW TO’S”

Some of this will begin the second week of school!

There will be some changes as we progress through the year, but this will help you get it all started!

Monday

~ “Take Home” spelling task sheet – students will complete the activity which comes from our spelling curriculum.  This will come home with the “Weekly Newsletter”.  It will be Monday’s homework, although your child may choose to complete it anytime during the week as long as it is turned in on Friday.  The new spelling words for the week and the challenge words will be listed on the “Weekly Newsletter” and in the student’s agenda book.

~ Complete the row of Monday night math facts on the back of the “Weekly Newsletter”.

~ Student should read orally at least 10 minutes each night (15 and then 20 minutes as the year progresses).  Please write the title of the book and number of pages read under the column of math facts.

Tuesday

~ ABC Order - The student will alphabetize the list of spelling words.  This is best done by starting at the beginning of the alphabet and asking your child to see if any words begin with a, then b, c, d, etc.  Watch for and assist your child in 2nd and 3rd letter alphabetizing when necessary!

~ Complete the row of Tuesday night math facts on the back of the “Weekly Newsletter”.

~ Document the title and pages of book read.

Wednesday

~ Sentences - The student writes at least 5 sentences using as many of the week’s spelling words as possible.  Each spelling word in the sentence should be underlined.  Please help your child become aware of capitalization at the beginning and correct punctuation at the end of each sentence.  Encourage your child to use “a rich” vocabulary and vary the sentence structure – begin each sentence with a different word.

~ Complete the row of Wednesday night math facts on the back of the “Weekly Newsletter”.

~ Document the title of book and number of pages read orally for 10 minutes.

Thursday

~ A Math activity sheet and a creative writing activity will come home with the blue “Weekly Newsletter” for the first few weeks.  These activities will be Thursday’s homework, but again, your child may choose to do them anytime during the week.

~Later in the year the children will receive a notebook, pencil, small stuffed animal (we call it a “Zoo Baby”), and other trinkets to inspire them to write a story, poem, letter, etc. of their choice.  It can be written anytime during the week, but it will need to be brought to school on Friday to be read and/or checked as part of their regular homework.

~ Staple all homework together, check over work, both parent and student sign the “Weekly Newsletter”, and put it in the white binder to turn in to the teacher on FRIDAY morning.

 Friday

~Turn in homework at school.

Saturday, Sunday

~ Enjoy your time together!

WHAT DO THE DIFFERENT FOLDERS MEAN?

***Your child will have 3 important items going back and forth from home to school this year.

1.  The white 1” front view binder will hold our daily agenda book and any special notes I may send home.

***Please check this binder every day and sign the agenda, daily!!!

***Parents, please use this binder for all of your notes, forms, etc. when sending them to school.

This binder should be with your child at school each day!

2.  The white folder with “Camp Creek Elementary”, a picture of a tiger, and “Home of the Camp Creek Cubs” is our “Friday Folder”.  I will use this folder to send home our “Homework Newsletter” and activities and all notes or other important messages from the school.

3.  The blue weekly progress report folder will usually come home each Monday with the previous week’s behavior check sheet, the student’s daily behavior chart, and any graded tests and papers from that week.

Please review these with your child, initial and/or sign the two sheets and return the folder to school the following day.

Please do not take the signed &/or initialed sheets out of the folder.  You may keep your child’s papers.
