DISTRICT LEVEL
Every speech performance at competition is awarded a division rating of I, II, III, or IV. At the district level, participants have one judge and one rating. Performances receiving a I rating advance to the state level. YAHOO!
STATE LEVEL
At the state level, each performance is critiqued by a panel of three judges. The three ratings are averaged to determine an overall rating for the performance. A group or individual must receive at least two I ratings to be awarded an overall I rating.
Performances earning a I or II at state receive a medal. BLING!!!!
ALL-STATE
State speech judges may nominate a performance for All-State. If two of the three judges nominate a single performance for All-State, that event earns All-State status. Those performances are then selected as Performing or Non-Performing acts by the IHSSA. All will attend the All-State Festival event.
Students earning All-State status receive an All-State medal. HEAVY BLING!!! Also, All-State large groups will be added to the plaque outside the main office at the high school and individual students who make All-State will have the opportunity to be honored on the Fine Arts Hall of Fame for speech.
