Study Guide for the Math 2012 Midterm Fractions Terms: numerator, denominator, mixed numbers, improper fractions, lowest terms(simplest form), common denominator, greatest common factor, least common multiple, least common denominator, prime and composite numbers. Be able to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. Be able to change improper fractions into mixed numbers and mixed numbers into improper fractions. Be able to compare fractions to fractions and order them from least to greatest. Be able to solve word problems using fractions. Be able to use a factor tree to factor to primes in exponential form Multiplication Be able to multiply by whole numbers up to three places. Remember to hold your place with zeroes for each line. Be able to multiply decimals by whole numbers and by other decimals. Count your places by coming in through the back door. Be able to work with exponents-Write as a standard number or with a base and exponents Division Be able to divide with a 1 digit divisors. Be able to divide with decimals in the dividend only. Be able to read decimal numbers correctly. Know your divisibility rules. Properties Know the commutative, associative, identity and zero properties for multiplication and addition Geometry Know all terms Be able to measure angles Know degrees within a figure Reading/ Language Arts Study Guide Part I will be worth 60 points and will consist primarily of reading, grammar and spelling questions. Grammar will include: Common/Proper nouns Singular/Plural nouns Compound/ Complex sentences Action/ Linking verbs Dependent/ Independent clauses Principal parts of verbs (present, past, present participle, past participle Kinds of Sentences (declarative, imperative, exclamatory, interrogative) Subject-Verb agreement Reading will focus on the skills we have practiced such as sequencing, fact/opinion, main idea and a reading passage with comprehension questions. Part II will be worth 40 points. The January book report will be worth 10 points. We will also complete a listening/response question before the test which will be worth 10 points also. The children will write a composition the day of the test. They should also know the literary terms and figurative language that we have discussed this semester. There will also be a paragraph to proofread for spelling errors. Following is a list of 20 spelling words from which I will choose 10 that must be written correctly from this paragraph: terrific regular climate needle pioneer tomorrow maintain occurred denied volunteer caterpillar admitted satisfied pharmacy oxygen solar beliefs sheriffs volcanoes toboggan Science Study Guide Units: A. Plants D. Ecosystems E. The Solid Earth (first 2 chapters) Vocabulary: A list of science terms for each chapter can be found in the chapter review on PP. A25, A53, A73, A95, D23, D43, D63, E33 and E63. Format: Part I of the test is worth 60 points. This will include multiple choice, fill in the blanks and matching questions. Part II will be worth 40 points. 10 points will be previously completed by handing in their biome project. The remaining 30 points will be in the form of 3 essays, worth 10 points each. The best way to prepare for this test is to study old tests and notes. Religion Study Guide Materials: Textbook Chapters 1-8 Format: Part I is worth 60 points. This will include matching, fill in the blanks, multiple choice and short answer questions. The questions will be taken from the faith words in each chapter, the We Believe sections, and the material covered in the chapters. The best way to study is to review old tests and to go over the chapter reviews at the end of each chapter. Part II will be worth 40 points. 20 points have already been completed in the Advent Journal (10 points) and in their Saint reports (10 points). The other 20 points will be in essays form. Students should review the Beatitudes, people we have met in the chapter, the idea of sanctifying grace and how it works in our lives. Baptismal and Confirmation symbols should also be reviewed.
