Please read the following important message from the Shrine Office:

PLEASE follow the parking lot procedures to help keep all our children safe at morning arrival.  These procedures can be found on Edline under Safety Committee, on page 14 of the Student Handbook, and in the materials you received in your first day packet.  They include:

            For Linwood parking lot:

  • Pulling forward as far as possible before dropping off – (no matter what door your child enters)
  • Making a RIGHT turn only from the drop off lane – DO NOT CHANGE LANES
  • If parking, using the CROSSWALK only to get to the sidewalk
  • Making a LEFT turn only from the parking lane – DO NOT CHANGE LANES

            For Woodward parking lot:

  • Absolutely NO drop-offs – You must park
  • Walk your children to the cones by the door

Any back-ups that occur on Woodward, Twelve Mile Rd., or congestion at Linwood could cause harm to our children and are the result of drivers not following the procedures or parents/children not using the crosswalks.

A million thanks to those who are following the procedures.  Hopefully, the others will follow your lead.

Stop the Meanness and Spread the Kindness

All First Graders have attended a Kids Empowered Program. We learned a lot about ways to make our "bubble" bigger and stronger, by standing up for ourselves, standing up for others, and being kind.  We practiced standing tall, holding our chins up, making direct eye contact, and using our Sponge Bob Square Shoulders when facing a mean person, or a "snake." The children were taught to try three times to stop meanness by saying things like, "I want you to stop ___," "I don't think you heard me.  I want you to stop __," and then, ""I told you 2 times to stop __. If you do it again I am going to have to report you."  Walking away is not the answer.  Empowered children use their power to stand up for themselves and others, and know when to use their power to get help from an adult.  We do not want anyone to stand-by while someone hurts their feelings or the feelings of others.  We want all of the children to remember and use the words, "At Shrine, we let everyone play, we don't call anyone mean names, and we always do what Jesus wants us to do!"  Let's work together to STOP THE MEANNESS AND SPREAD THE KINDNESS!!
If you are interested in learning more about the Kids Empowered Program you can call them at 248-757-0912. You can also sign up on their website for their monthly newsletter at www.girlsempowered.com and www.boysempowered.com. They can also be found on Facebook: Stop the Meanness, Spread the Kindness.
