Welcome to Ms. A's Physical Education Web Page. The purpose of this site is to provide students and parents with important information about Physical Education class. Below is the Mission Statement for the Physical Education Department as well as the Course Syllabus that was reviewed with all students the first week of school.
Students: Under each tab you will find all the information that is taught in the different units throughout the year. This will be your study guide when preparing for your quizzes.

My office hours will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00 until 3:30 in the Fitness Room.
Phys. Ed. Make-up ClassesMake-up classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00-3:30 in the weight room. These are for students that missed a phys. ed. class due to absence from school or field trips, etc. Classes must be made up within two weeks or students will receive zero for that class.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Sacred Heart Academy Physical Education Department is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life.
Course Syllabus It is required by New York State to successfully complete 4 years of Physical Education. Students receive ½ credit per year. Freshwomen and Sophomores participate in Physical Education class 3 times per cycle. Juniors and Seniors participate in Physical Education class 2 times per cycle. GRADING: Letter grades are A, B, C, D, and F and are averaged into the students GPA. Grading Rubric- Particpation 9-10 points On task the entire class. Gives best effort for the entire class. Follows directions completely with out prompts. Listens to teacher. Participates with others effectively and respectively. Grading Rubric- Prepared 5 points Clothes t-shirt, shorts, sweats -Shorts with a length meeting the school dress code. They must have an elastic waist- athletic shorts. They may not be casual shorts of any kind (no zippers, buttons, etc.) 5 points Sneakers Sneakers that are tied and socks allow you to participate safely. Boots, open toed or elevated shoes are hazardous to your health in Physical Education so they are not allowed in class. Sneakers must be tied tight enough so as not to come off your feet for any reason. YOU ARE NOT MEETING DRESS CODE IF YOUR SHOES ARE NOT TIED!! Examples of point deductions: No participation in class, Poor effort in class activities/assignments, Non-attentive in class, not following directions in a timely manner, unacceptable language, disruptive behavior of any type, being unprepared for class.EVALUATION: 20 pts. per class using physical education rubrics Quizzes Assignments Presentations Projects CLASSROOM POLICIES:1.BE ON TIME. When the second bell rings students should be in the locker room. Four to five minutes after that you should be changed and waiting in the gym or weight room. 2. CHANGE FOR EVERY CLASS. To be changed means you wear a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers appropriate for physical activity. No SHOES, SCHOOL UNIFORMS or TEAM UNIFORMS are to be worn in class. Sweatshirts and sweatpants may also be worn if desired. 3. EFFORT SHOULD EQUAL ABILITY LEVEL. Participate in class, all period, every class. 4. FOLLOW THE TEACHER’S SIGNAL FOR ATTENTION. Whistle, call for quiet, hand signals. Regardless of the signal, when you hear or see it you should immediately stop, look, and listen to what is being said. 5. BE POLITE. Show respect for yourself, each other, and your teacher. It is rude to talk when someone else is talking. 6. FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE GAME OR ACTIVITY. These rules are designed for your safety. 7. NO CELL PHONES OR FOOD. This includes in the locker room area. 8. WAIT IN THE LOCKER ROOM. At the end of the period wait for the bell to dismiss you to your next class. MEDICAL EXCUSES: Any student being excused from physical education class because of an injury or illness must provide her teacher with a written excuse. Parental notes will excuse the student for two classes. If the student is to be excused for longer than two classes a note from the physician is required, stating the reason she is to be excused, how long she will be out of class, and any limitations she may have when returning to activity. Any student excused from class for medical reasons will be required to complete a written assignment during the class period.
