Welcome to Ms. Laura's classroom website! Dear Students and Parents, I want to extend to you my warmest and most heartfelt welcome to my class (and website!). I am so grateful to be a part of the APA community! Here is a bit of information about me: My name is Laura J. Khalil and I teach 7th grade Social Studies (TX History and U.S. Civics), 9th grade English Language Arts, and AP Literature and Composition. Additionally, I am the advisor for APA Student Council and the UIL/PSIA Prose and Poetry coach. In 2006, I graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Anthropology. Before joining APA, I was a Program Director and taught a variety of subjects at a charter middle school here in Austin. I love reading, writing, and making art. This is my second year at APA, and I am here to challenge students to grow and help them to succeed. I strive every day to make my classroom a fun, positive environment wherein students can voice their opinions and learn beyond what is written in the textbook. My goal is to motivate my students to take pride in their work and to never settle for less than their best. For more information about my classroom procedures and policies, please use the Resources link on this site. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me: lkhalil@apacademy.org. I look forward to working together with you to make the 2011-2012 school year a fantastic one! Sincerely, Ms. Laura
