2010 FLL Challenge:

Body Forward

Engineering Meets Medicine

Go to the FIRST LEGO League Website

to read about this year's exciting challenge!

Carlisle's Hotshots Robotics Team also recommends:

Through the 2010 Body Forwardâ„¢ Challenge, FLL teams will explore the cutting-edge world of Biomedical Engineering to discover innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions, and maximize the body's potential, with the intended purpose of leading happier and healthier lives. See our Journal and follow our journey below!

We continued our discussion using our additional research we found on our four focus topics. Dr. Kimmel also provided us with a copy of the schedule from the science composium he recently attended. It included many sessions with biomedical engineering applications. We are going to research the topics to see if they lead us to some exciting emerging technologies that may provide solutions to our focus topics.

We also realize we need more time, so we voted unanimously to add one hour to our Saturday practices. Our new practice time is 10-4.

We're working out our robot missions now, and the SMARTBoard and the SMART Document Reader have been a tremendous help. We captured an image of our proto-type robot so that we could print out the picture, then build another so that two groups can program and get through more missions. Also, the images below are the notes we captured on our SMARTBoard. Enjoy!

We brainstormed with Dr. Kimmel as he led us through an engineer-style discussion. He helped us understand the way to establish timelines on a project by showing us the process of starting with the target date, and we worked backward from there to establish a CDR and a PDR. Ask us what those letters stand for! We need to be ready to freeze the skit by November 20th. Learning time management is a skill to use our entire lives. Thanks, Dr. Kimmel!
