And now...a fake conversation with Ms. Murphy:

Ms. Murphy, what should I do this summer?

Great question! This summer you should read The Odyssey translated by Geraldine McCaughrean and another book of your choice. I encourage you to read a genre that is new to you. For example, do you generally read mysteries? Try a biography! Love fanstasy novels? Try historical fiction! If you have trouble finding books, please check out my suggested reading list (coming soon!) for ideas and suggestions. This summer, you should also get outside, go to a museum, see a movie or two and HAVE FUN! Oh, and don't forget to complete the writing assigment that is described on your summer reading list!

(And, of course, please, please, please read as much and often as you can!)

Ms. Murphy, what are you doing this summer?

This summer I will be teaching at the Governor's Scholars Program at Centre College.

Okay, well, what's the Governor's Scholars Program?

From the GSP website:
"The Governor’s Scholars Program is a five-week, residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year in high school. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an application and compete with others from across the state to be selected. "

What are you going to do there?

Basically, I will be teaching really smart and accomplished high school students in a very fun and intellectually engaging environment. It's like mini-college for the summer!

Have a great summer!

Feel free to contact me via email at amurphy@stfrancisschool.org. I will be checking my school email all summer.
