 Dear JK Parents,

We are finished our week learning about birds. We learned about different types of birds such as a ratite, raptor, song bird, and waterfowl. We made binoculars which we used on our bird walk through St Francis’s nature preserve, decorated a great horned owl plate, and made bird feeders. We also made a counting packet system with bird items (which I encourage you to “play” with them), counted eggs for a nest, and did a counting worksheet. We read baby Bird, Feathers, Duck on a Bike, Little Snowy Owl, What Do Ducks Dream, Counting Birds (an interactive counting book) and Birds of Prey. Our words of the week were bird, nest, egg, beak, and raptor. In the science area we explored a bird nest, eggs, and peacock, GHO owl, red tail hawk, vulture, and barn owl feathers. They also enjoyed the bird identification books.

We had a school assembly today to honor some students and three classes talked about outreach projects. Priscilla form the other class and Amelia spoke and showed off how cute those stationary sets were. Amelia could not have been any cuter!!! She told everyone that an incubator was being purchased for animal babies and that an incubator was something that keeps babies warm because they don’t have mamas to keep them warm. Then she spoke of colleting acorns at recess and turned around to me standing behind her and gave me the biggest, best hug and the whole school was smiling and saying “awwwwhhhhh”. These are the moments why I love teaching.

Next week we will learn about the Appalachian (pronounced like an “apple at ya”) region and history along with early America and the settlers.

Thanks to Cecilia’s mom for helping chaperone our fieldtrip Monday and to Gabby’s dad for meeting us there and helping. (little did he know….)

I candled our chicken eggs with the kids this week. (Candling is looking inside with a light.) We found it VERY exciting to see a chick inside. We were lucky enough to see it moving. Very cool.

Thanks to Jack’s mom and dad mom for bringing in yummy treats and reading a book to us. Our next special person is Amelia and her week is the week we return from Thanksgiving break. Jack R is followed by her.

There is no the letter for show-n-tell next week.

Don’t forget that Grandparents Day is at 10AM on Wednesday the 25th.  They may want to get here around 9:30 to get a good seat. We will be on the left side of the lunchroom if facing the stage. Grandparents will enjoy a performance, and visit in our classroom for a little while. For the parent performance (Nov 24th at 8:45 in lunchroom) as well as the Grandparent performance, please have your child wear a nice outfit such as casual church attire. You will LOVE how CUTE your kids look.

It was requested that I send out information about an upcoming play at Kentucky Center for the Arts. My son, Kyle, plays Charlie in the Best Christmas Pageant Ever and has three public performances all of which I will be attending. The dates are December 5 at both 2 and 5PM and on the 12th at 5PM. The show is 53 minutes in duration.

Have a great weekend,

Ms Brigette
