Sarah Dewberry

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."--William Butler Yeats

Sarah understands that this is a truly unique school.  An alumna of St. Francis, Sarah believes that all the success she has enjoyed in her academic and professional life is a direct result of the education she received here.  She is a strong believer in the value of small class sizes, a caring and encouraging environment, hands-on learning, and rich and varied experiences.

Sarah earned a degree in Elementary Education at Centre College in 1995 with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Studies.  After teaching second, third, and fourth grades in a small public school for two years in Central Kentucky she got married and moved to Northern Kentucky where she taught fifth grade for three years.  While living in Northern Kentucky, Sarah earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Xavier University where it was her hope to some day move back to Louisville and work as the Lower School Head at St. Francis.  In the summer of 2000 Sarah and her husband, David, moved to Louisville, and Sarah joined the faculty of St. Francis as a 3/4 lead teacher.  She taught for five years, during two of which she also held the role of Lower School Head.  Upon the birth of her daughter in March of 2005 Sarah decided to take a year off.  She is very happy to be back as a Kindergarten lead.

In her free time Sarah enjoys practicing yoga, cooking, reading, and sewing.  She and her family love living in Crescent Hill where there is always something to do.  When people ask about her long drive to work, she responds, "I love where I live and I love where I work, so no matter where I'm going I'm always happy to be there."
