About Me About Me

I am a native New Yorker, born and raised in Greenport, LI where my parents owned and operated a small hotel. College brought me to Massachusetts where I earned a BS in Education from Northeastern University, a Masters degree in Moderate Special Needs from Lesley College and a Masters degree in Human Development from Harvard University. I have many years of experience at the first grade, pre-school, and kindergarten levels. I taught in Pittsfield, Belmont, and Carlisle before joining the Andover Public Schools, although I am a long time resident of this community.

My husband, Frank and I have raised three wonderful daughters who are all products of the Andover Public Schools. Meghan, our oldest attended Tufts University and is currently working toward a doctorate in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health. We welcomed our new son in law, Matt Weiss two years ago in June. Matt and Meg met at Tufts and have been a duo ever since. Caitlin, our middle daughter, graduated from Bowdoin College and is a Teach for America alum. She is a first year student at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. She is engaged to be married in July. She and her fiance, Rich met as undergrads at Bowdoin.  Lauren, our youngest daughter, is a graduate of Bates College and is also a Teach for America alum. She currently working as a Learning Specialist at Achievement First, a charter school in Brooklyn, NY and she is also an adjunct lecturer at Hunter College. She recently completed a Master's degree in education and hopes to pursue another graduate degree in the near future.

Our entire family loves to travel, so we took a trip of a lifetime this past summer. We traveled to China and visited Hong Kong, Beijing, Xian, Toisan, Guongzhou, and Macau. Highlights included the Great Wall, the Clay soldiers, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Lantau Island, and Lamma Island, to name a few. We had the opportunity of visiting the village where my husband was born and we met many distant cousins while there. It was an exciting adventure that we'll all treasure forever.  I'm also an avid reader and I enjoy hiking, boating, and golf. Our family enjoys spending time on Sebago Lake in Maine and long walks in the Harold Parker State Forest which happens to be in our backyard.

I am passionate about my teaching career and I look forward to each and every day here at Sanborn. Mary Ellen Johnson has been my fulltime assistant for six years and we are beginning to be able to finish each other's sentences. We are a dedicated team who enjoys working together to create a caring, community of kindergarten learners.
