Students should be reading from their AR books everyday. We suggest that students try to read about 20 pages per day. It should take a student between two to three weeks to read a book and then take an AR test. If it takes longer than this then the student might be reading a book that is too difficult. There are books that will take longer to read due to the size of the book and this should be taken into consideration.
This year we will be putting a little twist on the AR program. Students need to find books to read books that are appropriate for their individual reading level and something that peaks their reading interest. After students finish reading a book they will complete an activity from their Bingo card and take the AR test. These activities are chosen by the student but will need to be turned in by the following specific dates.
Book Response #9 - due April 17
Book Response #10 - due May 8
The entire AR (Accelerated Reader) Book List can be viewed on-line. The list includes the titles, authors and book levels for parents and students to view and discuss.
An appropriate reading level is determined for your child by having them take the STAR Reading test on the computer. A Reading Range is recommended to the student based on that test result. Ideally, students will start at the lower end of the range and successfully increase their reading level throughout the year.
