Chapter 6:  Rocks and Minerals

We recently began a new unit in science. Below are the concepts we will be covering and the vocabulary we will be using. The test is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2009.  Please read the study guide with your child each night so they can review for the test.

Key Points to Remember

A natural resource is something from Earth that people use.

Air, water, land, rocks, minerals, and soil are natural resources that people use in many ways.

Think of how people use some of those natural resources.

Rocks are nonliving things made of one or more minerals.

Soil is made of bits of minerals and rock, rotting plants, and rotting animals.

Plant roots help protect soil from being taken away by wind and water.
