All State Chorus January 2013 MS&HS All State Choirs
Dear Middle School Students Please meet Mrs. Robins in the main Lobby of the Tampa Hyatt at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 10th. I will be sitting at a table in the restaurant by the main entrance. Items you must have with you for this meeting- do not leave these items in your car: 1. Your music and black folder with a pencil 2. Your bag lunch to include 2 bottles of water 3. You must be dressed in School Appropriate Clothing: a. Safe, close toed shoes (such as tennis shoes). b. Long Pants (it will be cold in Tampa 10th-12th). c. Shirt with sleeves, collar or turtleneck d. Sweater, Sweat Shirt, Light coat... 4. No tank tops - there is no 2 finger rule - no tank tops. 5. No shorts. 6. If you wear glasses (wear them). You could be a very great distance from the director. In your luggage: 1. You must bring your chorus uniform - complete with black dress shoes socks or tights. 2. Snacks 3. Books 4. Clothes as in item 3 above (enough for 2 more days). Parents: Do not try to check yourself in - I will be doing that prior to our meeting at 10:45 a.m. (With the school check.) You should be arriving at the hotel around 10:00 a.m. - this is a "downtown" hotel and their is no street parking. You will either have to valet or self -park your car in the hotel's garage or lot. Parents the street in front of the hotel is very busy - please have your child by your side and paying attention to their surroundings. At our 10:45 a.m. meeting we you will be getting your badges, schedules from the All State organizers, your pre-purchased concert tickets, and hopefully your room keys. I have requested early check-in - but rarely to we actually get the early check-in. There will be about 1000 middle school students and their parents in the Hyatt - please know where your children are at all times. Students must follow the hotel curfews set by the FVA (Florida Vocal Association) and the hotel. The pre-set curfew according to the All State contract that you signed says 11:00 p.m. The directors may move curfew up to 10:00 p.m. If students are found outside of their rooms after curfew - they will be dismissed and you will be asked to leave the hotel. The hotel is not flexible on this issue. (Students - an innocent trip down the hall to get ice even with a parent - could send you home.) The Hotel provides boxed lunches, breakfast, and dinners. Last year every meal ran around $5.00. Everyone should bring lunch from home for Thursday, as lunch is very difficult to obtain on check-in day and you can not ever be late for a rehearsal. I will show the parents during our meeting where some lunch spots are near the hotel. *I must leave all of you at 11:45 a.m. to run to the Embassy Suites Hotel to pick up the 3 HS boys who are in the men's choir. High School students do not come with parents as the hotels could not handle the volume. (There are 3-4 times as many HS students as MS.) I will periodically run down to check on everyone - but you are basically on your own. There must always be one parent in the rehearsal from PVS. Bring a good book, work to do, a computer, something quiet. The rehearsals are wonderful and a lot of fun. Parents can trade off rehearsals to take a break or to go pick up food. I will be in the Tampa Marriott about a 15 minute quick walk from the Hyatt with the 10 HS students. (They rehearse in 4 different venues.) The rehearsals are closed and you can only get in with your scanable name badge. The concerts this year are at the Marriott Waterside Hotel. The All State Chorus Directors will tell you when the children must be in the Venue on Saturday. You will have to get up, pack, and leave your room prior to the venue rehearsal and the concert. Many parents bring breakfast foods and snacks with them. Thank you, Loisanne Robins ____________________________________________________ Dear High School Students and Parents: Parents will need to bring students and their luggage into the lobby of the Marriott Water Side Hotel on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. (January 9, 2013) The Marriott Waterside Hotel is adjacent from the Tampa Convention Center in downtown Tampa. We are not at the Embassy Suites this year. As soon as you have checked your student(s) in with me you may leave - I will have your pre-purchased tickets for you. The valet's might let you leave your cars out front if there is room or they may make you park. (I will try to get you out quickly.) Please carpool if possible, students may not drive themselves, even if they are 18, they are not allowed by the Fl Athletic and Activities Association to have cars at the convention. Students must bring their uniforms and dress shoes. Students must have all of their music. * Students must have a pencil.
