Speech (Communication Applications) Recommended Grade: 9-12 Credit: 1\2 Prerequisite: None *8th Graders who complete this class will recieve high school credit.* Students learn how to effectively prepare, deliver, and evaluate speeches for a variety of purposes and audiences. They develop listening and speaking skills for interpersonal, group, and public situations to be successful in a variety of roles. This course is required for graduation. Quarter 1: - Importance of communication and the communication process
- Verbal and nonverbal communication
- Listening
- Confidence, language choice, interviews
- Special occasion speeches
- Cultural differences
- Group process/group roles/group leadership
- Conflict resolution
Quarter 2: - Thesis generation and topic selection
- Researching the speech
- Evidence and organization
- Use of visual aids
- Delivery and stage fright
- Speech evaluation
Grades: The following are the things you will be graded on: - Individual participation
