Communication Applications Syllabus (Speech)

Speech (Communication Applications)

Recommended Grade: 9-12                                                                              Credit: 1\2

Prerequisite: None

 *8th Graders who complete this class will recieve high school credit.*

 

Students learn how to effectively prepare, deliver, and evaluate speeches for a variety of purposes and audiences. They develop listening and speaking skills for interpersonal, group, and public situations to be successful in a variety of roles.

This course is required for graduation.

 

 

Quarter 1:

  • Importance of communication and the communication process
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Listening
  • Confidence, language choice, interviews
  • Special occasion speeches
  • Cultural differences
  • Group process/group roles/group leadership
  • Conflict resolution

 

 

Quarter 2:

  • Thesis generation and topic selection
  • Researching the speech
  • Evidence and organization
  • Use of visual aids
  • Delivery and stage fright
  • Speech evaluation
