What's Happening in Computer Class What's Happening in Computer Class

Listed on the following sub pages is a description of what your child is completing regarding computer activities. Our curriculum is aligned with meeting the standards through the National Education Technology Standards (NETS). Please note, that each grade level project prepares our students to be able to achieve academic standards set forth by New York State and NETS.

ISTE published the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) in 1998 after almost three years of development engaging a broad range of stakeholders. They documented a U.S. consensus defining what students needed to know about and be able to do with technology.

The standards, used in every U.S. state and many countries, are credited by most with significantly influencing expectations for students and creating a target of excellence relating to technology.

In 2006, ISTE began work on the next generation of NETS for Students, which focuses more on skills and expertise and less on tools. Specifically, they address

  • creativity and innovation;
  • communication and collaboration;
  • research and information fluency;
  • critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making;
  • digital citizenship; and
  • technology operations and concepts

    ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) have served as a roadmap since 1998 for improved teaching and learning by educators. ISTE standards for students, teachers, and administrators help to measure proficiency and set aspirational goals for the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to succeed in today’s Digital Age. Our proven leadership in developing these benchmarks and providing guidance in implementing them has resulted in broad adoption of the ISTE standards in the U.S. and in several countries.
    Student Profiles
    NETS for Students 2007 profiles A major component of the NETS Project is the development of a general set of profiles describing technology (ICT) literate students at key developmental points in their precollege education. The profiles highlight a few important types of learning activities in which students might engage as the new NETS•S are implemented. These examples are provided in an effort to bring the standards to life and demonstrate the variety of activities possible. The profiles are divided into the following four grade ranges. Because grade-level designations vary in different countries, age ranges are also provided.
