Krysten working to set up the potometer. Megan looking to squirt Alex or Stacy with water. Hmm.....

In this laboratory, students applied what they learned about water potential during the diffusion and osmosis lab to observations of the movement of water within a plant.

They studied the process of transpiration, as well as the organization of the plant stem in relation to water transport by observing sections of fresh plant tissue.  In order to do this, students needed an understanding of how water moves from roots to leaves in terms of the physical and chemical properties of water, plus the forces provided by differences in water potential.

Alex using the fan to represent windy conditions. This was by far, her favorite lab! :)

Yet another poor plant being subjected to windy conditions. If only Alex could get it right.

Humid conditions. Notice the mess Megan made with the "plant mister".
