Mrs. Mayhan and Mrs. Bell’s class

This week:

This week we shared the items sent that describes a little about ourselves and learned many great things about our friends.  We particularly enjoyed sharing our favorite books with the class.  We made an “All About Me” poster for everyone to see.  In Math, we counted objects, identified geometric shapes, and sorted various items by color, shape, and function.

We learned about the letter Mm by identifying pictures that began with the letter Mm and looked for words in our reading lessons that began with Mm.  We took turns writing the letter Mm on the white board and later practiced writing on our own.  We listened and sang along with our Mat Man CD and used wooden sticks to form the letter Mm.

Next week:

We will continue with our “All About Me” theme, sharing about our families, jobs, and responsibilities.  The letter for the week will be the letter Bb.  In math, we will continue to count and identify numbers, sort, and graph our names.

Remember Curriculum Night is Monday, August 22nd at 7:00 pm.  We will meet in my room to view a televised PTA presentation.  I will then go over some important information about classroom procedures, county and school policies and procedures, and answer any questions you may have.

Skills to Review and Practice at Home:

1.      2.      Practice counting and identifying numbers to10.

3.      Read a story and then retell it, focusing on beginning, middle, and end.

4.      Have your child identify characters in the story.

5.      Draw a simple shape (circle, square, etc.) and have your child color inside the shape using his/her wrist while moving the crayon from side to side.

Scholastic News:

I will be ordering Scholastic News Magazine to supplement our Unit studies.  If you have not sent in your $5.00, please do so by Friday.  Make checks payable to Scholastic.
