            Hearst Student Store

Did you know that the Hearst Student Council now has their own store?  It is located outside of Mr. Zarro's office during recess on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Items for sale (currently) are pencils, lead, paper, staplers, water etc.  Items range in price from $0.25 to $3.00.  More items will be for sale as time goes on.  If you are interested, bring your change and get the supplies you need!

First in Math

First in Math is an AMAZING program on the internet that targets math skills.  Many of the classrooms at Hearst are participating in this exciting program!!  The program is very simple; students are asked various math questions, as they get the problems right, they earn 'stickers'.   The more stickers a student acquires, the higher the ranking he/she receives.  The questions start off easy and then the levels get progressively harder.  A letter went home earlier this year, which contained your child's login information.  If you have misplaced the login information, just send me an email and I will gladly get it to you right away.  Have fun and enjoy the great things that "First in Math" has to offer!

To visit the website, click on the following link:  www.firstinmath.com

FREE BOOKS!!!

When our class orders books from Scholastic, we earn points. Once we have enough points, we can trade them in for books and cool items for our classroom. Book orders are due this Monday!

Volunteering Information

We'd LOVE for you to volunteer in our classroom this year and can't wait to get the whole process rolling!  Before you can start, however, the school district is requiring volunteers who will be working directly with students, to complete an application, a TB test, and fill out a Criminal Background Form which will be sent away for screening.  This MUST be done before you are able to work with students, help during Art Corps, or even drive on field trips.   If  you're not sure if you will volunteer, but think that there could be a small chance that you may be able to help, please fill out the papers.  The office has all of the information you need - just stop by and they will give the papers to you to complete.

These are some good free websites to use with the spelling list in making puzzles. (Thanks to Kai and family)
