   Kennedy's Critter Chronicle

May 8, 2012

Reading:   We will be reading the story Two Bad Ants.   It about some adventurous ants and their "point of view." Our target skills for this story are animal fantasy, word structure, plot and theme, and visualizing.  The test for this story will be given on Thursday, May 17th.

Spelling:   The spelling list for Two Bad Ants went home on Monday this week.  All the words are multisyllabic.  We will  be testing over these words on Thursday, May 17th.  Please try to study a little every night.

Vocabulary:  The vocabulary words for this story should have come home today.  We will be writing paragraphs using the vocabulary this week.  The vocabulary test will be given on Thursday, May 17th.

Writing:  The Critters bread projects are now online.  There National Monument PowerPoints will be online soon.  The Critters will now start work on book reviews to be displayed for the new third graders at Open House in the fall.

Grammar:  We are learning about the comma.  Since most grown-ups don't use the comma correctly, you can imagine how tough it is for students!  We will practice this skill a good deal these next two weeks.

Math:  The Critters took their Topic 18 test today.  We will begin Topic 19 on dividing bigger numbers tomorrow.  I will get the Topic 18 tests home by the end of the week.

Science:  The Critters have begun their unit plants.  The seeds we planted last week have sprouted and some already have leaves!  The seeds we planted in baggies on the window have some great root systems showing.  I will be sending home a "seed project" to be done at home tomorrow.  It is a fun project and the kids love having some parental attention!  We will have a test over plants later next week.

Social Studies:  The Critters are still working on their Missouri unit with Ms. Seyfarth.  They will learn about our state symbols, regions of our state, and the special topograpghical features in Missouri.

Computers:  We are using the computers daily for many activities.

Cursive:  The Critters will be practicing their cursive spelling here at school this week.

Accelerated Reading (AR):  Almost all of the Critters made their AR goal for 4th quarter, and for the year!  We will now be reading books to write reviews.

Critter of the Week:   Our new Critter of the Week will be ... William "the Wolf" W!  He has been trying to improve his classroom behavior and did a super job during the MAP tests.  He will give us a report on the wolf.  Good job Wil!

Notes:   I got the bread and our Mother's Day project is in full swing!  There are many special activities coming up.  I hope I have them all listed.
