Kennedy's Critter Chronicle
November 15, 2017
Reading: We began our new story, Kamishibai Man, on Monday. It is fun story and we are doing lots of extra activities with it. Our target skills for reading are cause and effect, analyzing illustrations, and clarifying. Our test will be given on Monday, November 20.
Vocabulary: New vocabulary words should have come home Monday. Ask to see them if you have not. We are using them in some new ways this week.
Spelling: Spelling lists went home Monday too. All the words have the "OW," sound like in tOWn or sOUnd. Our test will be given on Friday, November 17.
Math: We are almost done with Topic 8, about division. Our test will be given on Friday, November 17. Please review the math papers coming home. Some of the Critters need to do some serious flashcard practice to improve. We will be taking the timed tests every Monday (50 question) and the one-minute tests whenever we can. Practice makes perfect, so PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
Writing: Our writing format for second quarter is opinion writing. We have taken a short break with that for this story. We are writing "box book" stories and haiku poems. They should turn out great! We will go back to opinions next week.
Social Studies: Is on hold while the Critters are with Mrs. Wood for science.
Science: Our class is still learning about the sun, moon, and space with Mrs. Wood. When the Critters return to me, they will begin a unit on weather. We received our digital weather center. It is AWESOME!
STEM: We had our first "sound" lesson with 4th grade. It was the start of a fun creating unit about sound all around us. Our next lesson will be on how sound is added to movies!
Handwriting: We finished our lowercase cursive letters today! Hooray! We will start on capital letters next week. Some of the Critters will be getting a bit of extra homework for letters they are having trouble with.
Critter of the Week: Our Critter of the Week for this week has been...Lucy H! Lucy has been working really hard to improve her skills and always does her best! Great job Lucy! Lucy will give us a report about the hare.
I have a new, new number for you to use if you need to text me:
