Thinking About Being a Teacher; Than This Is the Course For You.

 

Introduction to Teaching is an application-only course designed for students interested in pursuing a career in education.  In this course, students will be exposed to the many facets of education through educational readings, class discussions, guest speakers, discovery learning projects, classroom observation, and participatory experiences with the school system. 

 

The Introduction to Teaching class is open to students during their junior year only.  Upon successful completion of the Introduction to Teaching course and acceptance of an application, students can register for the Georgia Teacher Apprentice program in their senior year.  This capstone program gives students hands-on experience in the field of education and the opportunity to become familiar with the classroom environment.  After the successful completion of the GTA program, students will receive a certificate of completion from the State of Georgia

  

First Semester

Students will study related education topics.

 

Second Semester

Students will spend three days per week observing and assisting in elementary classrooms.

 

Requirements for the Class:

            v     Junior class standing during next year

v     2.7 GPA

v     Two teacher recommendations

v     Be on track for CP seal

v     Approval of selection committee

v     Class is limited to highest qualifying Junior

v     Student must provide transportation to school site
