News for the week of November 9th-13th What will we do this week? This week we will be reading Turtle's Race with Beaver. We will be discussing the topic of sharing, and when it makes sense to share. Throughout the story, we will be focusing on sequencing and summarizing. Our spelling words this week focus on er, ir, and ur words. Our grammar lessons will deal with singular and plural nouns. In math, we finished chapter 6 on graphing. This week we will finally begin Chapter 2, Subtraction! Our lessons this week will focus on subtracting all or zero, the "counting back" strategy, showing the connection between addition and subtraction, and fact families. We will also begin our subtraction flash card packet. In Science, we will continue Ch. 7 on the sun and earth.

News: Teacher News: On Tuesday and Wednesday(10th and 11th) this week, a PTO Movie Night will be held at the middle school at 6:30pm. Friday the 13th will be a spirit day here at Peters Elementary. Please wear pajamas/slippers and bring your favorite stuffed animal to show your school spirit!
Everyday Reminders: Make sure the "Keep at Home" side of your folder is emptied at home every night. The assignment book on the "Return to School" side will contain your child's homework assignment. The homework, assignment book, and flash card envelopes should all be in the "Return to School" side every night and brought back to school the following day.
I will be sending their spelling words home with the students on Monday in the front pocket of their homework folders. We will have spelling homework most nights, and our spelling tests will always be on Fridays. I would appreciate it if the spellings lists could be sent back to school every day in the folder in case we need them for a school activity. On the spelling tests, you will notice that we began our sentence dictations. You will also notice two more grades on this test. They include a grade for sentence spelling and a grade for capitalization and punctuation. From this point on, the 20 word grade is in red at the top, the applied sentence spelling is in blue at the bottom, and the capitalization and punctuation grade is in green at the bottom. Thank you!
