Below this note are the minutes from the October meeting. I would like to thank everyone that contributed to the pot luck dinner, it was appreciated. Our trunk or treating event went very well. Almost 200 kids came through and we had about 15 vehicles decorated. We even made it in the SunJournal. Great job Amy!
We have had discussion within out PTO group regarding the use of Facebook. Because some questions and concerns have been brought up I encourage everyone to attend the social networking clinic on November 16th at 6pm with officer Bernard. Please RSVP to Monica Millhime so we can make sure that there is space for everyone.
Friday November 13th is a spaghetti dinner at Sugg Middle school to raise money for the 7th grade's trip to camp Kiev. Buy your tickets early from Amy Austin or at the door. Davinici's has donated garlic knots!!

Take advantage of Thanksgiving and encourage family to participate. The products will be in before the December holidays.

3.Principal’s Perspective – Carlene/Kate:
It is fire prevention week and Red Ribbon Week. She wanted to pass on to the PTO how appreciative the teachers were for the Pot Luck dinner on conferences night and for all of the PTO support.Left-overs were shared with teachers the next day.
The original clock system is being fixed as we speak to get the central computer to work with the analog clocks.
Kate:Nancy Craig wants parents to know that it is VERY important to get the kids vaccinated for H1N1 Flu.There will be a clinic at LCS on November 7th.If parents have questions about where to find other clinics:findaflushot.gov.
4.Monica’s Moment
Serve New England Deadline is approaching: Online orders due by November 9th.$30 for a turkey dinner and all the fixins.www.servenewengland.org (chapter #9261)

Junior Volunteer 5th graders meeting just happened with almost 100 % attendance.22 students signed up to be officers and there will be elections.Regarding service projects for Junior Volunteers;there are guidelines in place to have them assist at events. The project MUST be approved by Monica and the appropriate principle and there MUST be an adult present and assigned to work with the jr. volunteers at the event.
The smoke house is here this week and last Friday was School pictures by Lifetouch. She has received positive feedback regarding the packages for this year and the pricing.
5.Treasurer’s Report
The PSavings account has been closed and the money shifted to the School’s account. This was money PTO was managing for the scholarship. The gift card fundraiser is stressing Candace out since so MUCH money needs to go out before we can get money back into the budget so it appears to be always in the red.Treasurer’s Report was APPROVED.
Two financial requests were made at this time:
The Math team asked for money to put towards t-shirts or some other team-related item.It is a NEW club this year and therefore did not get a special interest request in last year.Request Approved .
The Chess Club is requesting $200 to defray costs for them to attend a PRACTISE meet in Belfast on 11/21.This club has over 50 students in it and most are LCS students (few SUgg students). This Belfast trip will help prepare them for an upcoming meet.Request Approved after discussion.
6.New Business
·Chrissie-Yard sale fundraiser
Chrissie spoke with someone in Topsham who ran a similar event. They do theirs in December before the holidays and made over $6000.The gift cards are a lot of work without a lot of return and she is concerned about raising enough money for next year’s needs.
A yard sale would solicit donations from LCS families and the community and maybe do it in conjunction with another event like the Health Fair or near Memorial Day.Storage of items could be an issue but Pam Shane is currently exploring space donations. The committee would price the items and set any junk aside in its own area. There could/would also be a silent auction for “big-ticket” items that could fetch a higher price.
Carlene doesn’t know of any similar fundraiser in the district and it would need to get on the district calendar.
Would need regular monthly item drop off times.Bobbi will do the paperwork with the school district.
·Amy S.- art work fundraiser
Amy brought information about a potential Art work fundraiser. The art teachers assist with the project. There is a lesson plan provded and a “send home packet. The artwork is done in the class and then the piece and the information is sent home.If something Is purchased then the artwork is sent in with the order, if not then the parents can keep the picture. It is a NY company with a 33% profit for the school on each item. There is not enough time to do for the December Holiday season but there is interest in looking into it for late spring, for Mother’s or Father’s Day.Carlene will bring to art teachers to see if they would be interested in running a pilot program with the Kindergarten classes.
7.Upcoming Events
Amy:Trunk-or-Treating update
There have been 116 RSVPs for treating with 16/17 vehicles.Jessica Maloy got in touch with Modern Woodsmen of America. They sent lots of goodies (stickers, tattoos, pencils etc..)Junior Volunteers can hand them out between the vehicles. There will be no costume contest this year.Police department is not coming; they are maxed out.Contacted the State Fire Marshall.

10.Open discussion: questions, comments, concerns, or ideas
Laurie Adams:Here to just give a BIG THANK YOUfor all the ongoing support each year. This year will be doing another musical called DINOMOTION.They are keeping costs down by doing lesser known plays .The copywrite is only $87.T-Shirts are the largest expence $5-7 apiece depending on size of cast could cost up to $350-$500.Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdaya for speaking parts.ONLY Friday for chorus parts. The play is 40 minutes long and the performances will be on 2/5 and 2/6.There are 7 songs total and she will be asking Monica to send out a call for props (trowels/shovels etc…)
Angela Shambarger:PTO Facebook Update:The sub group met on Friday the 23rd.Was decided to invite Detective McCallister to PTO so that larger group of parents could get their questions answered.Kim met with him and he would be willing to do so.Our next thought is to send a survey out to PTO members asking them for their opinions and also if we do NOT use facebook, what other means could we use for this type of communication.
Amy Austin suggested that PTO update and restocktheir babysitting supplies. Many folks volunteered to bring in coloring books and games.
