Bobcat Behavior Plan

Bobcat Behavior Plan Norway Elementary is involved in a Positive Behavior Supports Plan. We also use our Character Counts practices as well. We work everyday on making good choices, being responsible, respectful, fair, caring, trustworthy and being a good citizen. We will use the red, yellow orange and green smiley face system as a visual reminder for the first graders to use in the room to monitor their behavior. It is the same principle they had in kindergarten. There are daily/weekly planned lessons around the following character traits: being trustworthy, being respectful, being responsible, being fair, being caring and being a good citizen. We stress that these traits are not just for school, they are for out of school as well. We talk about "your actions tell people what kind of person you are." We work with students to become aware of their behaviors/actions and strive to have them become internally motivated to make good choices. We also discuss the word "consequences". Consequences are not punishment. We talk a lot about positive and negative consequences. Consequences are the result of a decision/action you made. Those results can be positive in nature or negative in nature. If you study for a test and get an 'A' on the test, that consequence was a positive one. If you don't study for a test and fail, that consequence was a negative one. This helps children to see the cause/effect results of their decisions/actions and helps them to understand they are in control of their behavior/actions.
