In addition to our regular lessons, we will prepare for Christmas by making Jesse Trees, and adding to them daily. Religion, Chapter 7 The Good News Gospel means ‘good news.’ The Gospels are books in the Bible telling about Jesus’ life, death, and Resurrection. They are named for the men who wrote them (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). The work of the Church is to share the good news of Jesus - the news of the Kingdom of God. Jesus used Scripture in worship. He used what we call the Old Testament. Some of its books are also named after the writers (Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc.). Messiah means ‘anointed.’ Jesus is the Messiah. His twelve followers were the Apostles. A parable is a short story used for teaching. Jesus used them often to explain God and His Kingdom. Although this world isn’t perfect because of sin, the Kingdom of God will be perfect with love, peace, and justice for everyone. PRAYER OF THE WEEK Dear God, help us follow You always. ‘You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in Your presence, the delights at Your right hand forever.’ (Psalm 16:11) Lord, help us follow the example of Jesus. Amen.
