The goals of the Art Department at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart are to help develop students' artistic skills and creativity by: 1) striving to develop the total person--especially the creative dimension. 2) developing in students an aesthetic awareness, so that they may become sensitive to beauty in our environment. 3) training students to develop skills in handling tools, materials and media. 4) striving to bring created beauty and order into our places of working and living--now and in the future. 5) stimulating enthusiasm and creativity in trying new modes of expression and new dimensions in using particular media. 6) giving special guidance to those with little artistic ability, so that they may at least find satisfaction in the experience of making and doing. 7) giving special attention to the gifted students by challenging them to explore the possibilities beyond the range offered within the program. 8) making the facilities and equipment available outside of studio hours, so that, within limits, art students, as well as non-art students may work on projects. 9) bringing works of art--both student and professional--to the attention of the school community through attractive displays. 10) aiding students to become aware of art as as a career.
