Heather and Maggie love being a part of the St. Francis family.

Heather McGraw believes there is not a greater thing a teacher can do than to open the door to a child’s imagination through books. As a lead teacher in kindergarten, Heather combines her love of children’s literature and her fondness for children to open doors to the bigger world locked inside their imaginations. Heather’s students can always count on her to read good books to them and let them discover the wonder that is already in them.

Before finding her place on the floor in a reading circle, Heather sat behind a desk in the marketing department at an international environmental company. She stretched her corporate self a little further by getting her real estate license and selling residential and managing commercial properties. After seven years, she decided their was a greater purpose to her life, so she worked her way through the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Bellarmine University.

In addition to her M.A.T., Heather has a bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of Kentucky. She and her husband, Scott McGraw, are both Oldham County natives. They have a five-year-old daughter named Maggie, who also attends St. Francis. They share their home with “Katie the Lady from Okie” or “Katie” for short, who is a Hungarian Vizsla that they traveled to Oklahoma to get.

Heather and her family enjoy spending time with friends and family on a boat in Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky. She also plays tennis, loves to garden, reads as often as she can and does needlepoint and makes jewelry.

Heather considers herself lucky to be able to see the world through Maggie’s eyes and knows she is a better teacher for it.
