Jenny Marshall

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.

                                                                                  William Keats

Jenny Marshall is currently in her fortieth year of teaching, with twenty two of those years being at St. Francis School. She knew that she wanted to be a teacher when she was in the third grader and her grandmother, whom she idolized, was her teacher.  She has taught first and second grades at St. Francis.  This is a wonderful grade to teach because you really get to see the learning process at its best . . . lighting the fire!

She began her teaching career in Oldham County teaching first grade, then changing to teach art for several years.  She started a private kindergarten program, later adding a preschool program and was the director/teacher for ten years.  A wonderful opportunity came along for her to work as a victim advocate at the Commonwealth Attorney Office in Jefferson County.  She worked with sexually abused children through the court system.  She still continues this work on a volunteer basis through ECHO (Exploited Children’s Help Organization) being the head of the Kids in Court program.

When she realized how much she missed teaching, she returned to the profession by teaching first and second grade at St. Francis School in 1988.  During her tenure at St. Francis she:

·        Served as the school representative in Project Discovery, a program for gifted children in Oldham

·        Returned to the University of Louisville through PRISM (Primary Research Integrating Science and Math) to become a Primary Science Specialist.  Ms. Marshall taught workshops for three years in this area, along with writing some units for state publication.

·        Served as a teacher representative to the search committee, as well as teacher representative on the board.

·        Presently serves as a school representative to KAIS (Kentucky Association of Independent Schools).

Jenny enjoys spending time with her family.  She and her husband, who is an Assistant Attorney General in Frankfort, have three grown children that live in the Louisville area.  They enjoy their time with their four grandchildren.  She loves to garden, cook, read and travel in her spare time.
