Third Grade Language Arts Topics Language Arts consists of writers’ workshop, guided reading, literature circles, spelling and word work, cursive writing and independent reading. Reading Genres Humorous/Realistic Fiction Non-Fiction Biography/Autobiography Fantasy Poetry Fables Writing Pieces (Students learn to evaluate their writing based on the following traits: ideas/content, organization, word choice, voice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation.) Personal Narrative Poems (various forms, as well as free verse) Persuasive Letters (friendly, thank you, etc.) Biography Feature Article Grammar and conventions are introduced and practiced within the context of reading, writing and spelling instruction.
