"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."--William Butler Yeats

I understand that this is a truly unique school.  As an alumna of St. Francis, I believe that all the success I have enjoyed in my academic and professional life is a direct result of the education I received here.  I am a strong believer in the value of small class sizes, a caring and encouraging environment, hands-on learning, and rich and varied experiences.

I earned a degree in Elementary Education at Centre College in 1995 with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Studies.  After teaching second, third, and fourth grades in a small public school for two years in Central Kentucky I got married and moved to Northern Kentucky where I taught fifth grade for three years.  While living in Northern Kentucky I earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Xavier University where it was my hope to some day move back to Louisville and work as the Lower School Head at St. Francis.  In the summer of 2000 my husband and I moved to Louisville, and I joined the faculty of St. Francis as a 3/4 lead teacher.  I taught for five years, during two of which I also held the role of Lower School Head.  After my daughter was born in March of 2005 I decided to take a year off.  I am very happy to be back for my third year as a Kindergarten lead.

I am expecting my second child in early December.  My maternity leave sub will be Amy Koloff.  Some of you know her from last year when she was an assistant in JK.  Amy has a bachelor's degree in English from Centre College and a Masters degree in Teaching from U of L.  She has ten years' of teaching experience, mostly in early primary grades in Oldham County schools.  She joined the St. Francis faculty as a fourth grade teacher in 2004.  After the birth of her twin girls Amy decided she needed to take a year off.  She returned last year to work with our JK kids.  I intend to return to finish out the end of the year.

In my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, cooking, reading, and sewing.  My family and I love living in Crescent Hill where there is always something to do.  When people ask about my long drive to work, I respond, "I love where I live and I love where I work, so no matter where I'm going I'm always happy to be there."
