Language Arts

Our current theme is "Colors All Around."  In this theme we are learning many new things.  Among them are:

Phonemic Awareness
     beginning sounds and words in oral sentences.

Phonics/Letter Names
     sounds for Ss, Mm and Rr.

High Frequency Words
   I, see

Reading Strategies
   predict/infer; summarize

Comprehension Skills
    sequence of events; inferences; making predictions.
    

Vocabulary
     describing words; exact naming words; singular/plural naming words.

Fluency
   build reading fluency.

Concepts of Print
     capital letters and end punctuation.

Writing
     descriptions; kid writing; graphic organizer; class story.

*Our Phonics Library story this week is The Parade.

*We will meet our next Alphafriend, Reggie Rooster.  He will teach us all about the letter Rr and the sound it makes. 

*Our read aloud story is entitled How the Birds Got Their Colors.

*Our big books for this week are In the Big Blue Sea and I Went Walking.
