Literacy Work Station-Definition

An area within the classroom where students work alone or interact with one another, using instructional materials to explore and expand their literacy skills.  It is a place where a variety of activities reinforce and/or extend learning introduced in reading and writing workshop.  Children will practice reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Our work stations are:

  • Computer Station
  • Listening Station
  • Making Words/ABC Station
  • Pocket Chart Station
  • Handwriting Station
  • Sight Word Station
  • Poetry Station
  • Overhead (Promethean) Station
  • Big Book Station
  • Buddy Reading Station
  • Writing Workshop Station
  • Classroom Library Station

Work stations should be in full operation by October.  It is important to establish routine and model so that students are able to work independently.  This is a fantastic time for volunteers to come into the classroom.
