Goal:  To foster a love of reading and to teach children to construct significant meaning from text read aloud and independently.       

The components of a balanced literacy program are:

  • Sight Word Recognition
  • Word Work
  • Grammar/Vocabulary
  • Mini-Lessons (to model the habits of good readers and decoding/comprehension strategy use)
  • Independent Reading AND Guided Reading
  • Literacy Work Stations
  • Conferring

     It is my hope that every child will leave my first grade classroom with a joy for reading and an ability to choose literature that is meaningful and "just right" for them!
