Listed below are the topics that we will be covering in our math curriculum. A math workbook will be sent home and most math homework assignments will be from that workbook. The new common core standards for first grade are: | Count by 1’s to 120 | | Count by 10’s to 120 | | Count by 1’s to 120 starting at any number | | Count backwards from 20 by 1’s | | Compose, decompose and write numbers 11-19 | | Compose, decompose and write numbers 20-120 | | Given a 2 digit number find 10 more | | Given a 2 digit number find 10 less | | Demonstrate fluency of addition facts Fact Families 0-10 | | Demonstrate fluency of subtraction facts Fact families 0-10 | | Recognize coins | | Know the value of coins | | Tell and write time to the hour | | Tell and write time to the half hour | | Recognize and identify attributes of 2 dimensional shapes | | Recognize and identify attributes of 3 dimensional shapes | | Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction | | Represent and interpret data with up to 3 categories | | Order and compare 3 objects by length | In order to differentiate instruction during math, students will be working in both small and large groups. Some activites we will use to address the Common Core Standards will be math games, computer activities and centers work. Additional extension activities will include logic and reasoning puzzles, deductions and brain teasers. Extra credit will also be sent home, but please have your child complete our regular classroom assignments first. Extra credit is always optional.
