CISS 121/Honors Computer Applications
Spring Semester 2011
Course Description: Introduction to microcomputer applications. Survey of application packages including Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, internet, presentation and graphics. Includes hardware concepts and computer terminology.

Due Dates:
All assignments have a scheduled due date and will be due at the end of the day. These due dates may change, but the students will be made aware of these changes ahead of time. Students need to abide by these due dates. Late work will be penalized 10% pr day and no assignments will be accepted more than one week after the due date issued in class. Work not handed in will be counted as zero (0) points. There are no incompletes for this course.
Attendance:
Good attendance is a critical part of learning and thus of passing the course. You are responsible for all materials and assignments even if you are absent on the day an assignment is due. Assignments are sometimes altered in class. it is your responsibility to be present to receive additional instructions.
Problems with Computer, Software, Homework/Test:
You are responsible for having access to a working computer or software. This can be at home, at school, local library, or a friend. If one computer or software does not work, locate another one so that you are able to finish the assignments on time. If you have an issue with homework, tests, software, grade, etc. it needs to be dealt with as soon as it arises. Do not wait until the end of the semester or after you receive your grade to deal with problems. Grades will not be changed after they have been posted.
Hands-on Exercises:
Each chapter int he text is a project assessment, hands-on exercise, or practice exercise. This requires reading the text in front of the computer. The graded projects will be the Project Assessments, Hands-on exercises, and practice exercises. These assignments can be worked on outside of class if needed. The students will turn in the printouts.
Student Conduct Policy:
Students are expected to conduct themselves with decorum in accordance with the Academic Code of Conduct described in the Student Handbook.
Academic Integrity:
You are responsible for doing your own work. Any student keyboarding, printing, copying another student's work (or permitting another student to do so) or giving answers to recall exercises/final exam questions will receive a grade of zero on that assignment. If there is a second instance of cheating, all students involved will be dealt with according to school policy.
Miscellaneous:
Backup all important information
Save all copies of all assignments in your X drive
CD players, radios, cell phones, and similar devices are prohibited in the classroom and laboratory facilities
No eating, drinking or gum-chewing in class
Sleeping during class and doing non-related coursework will not be tolerated
Lab assignments could take more time than the scheduled class periods. You are responsible for coming in outside of class to finish any work to meet deadlines
Do not disturb other students during class for missed information or during lecture. Side conversations while class is in session is socially rude and disturbing to other students and the instructor
