Research Papers

Students begin working on skills that will prepare them for writing research papers as early as first grade at Cathedral.  The document titled "Research Papers" below outlines this progression.

Beginning in grade four, students will begin research projects that use a works cited list to credit their sources.   We use the MLA format for our works cited.  A brief guide is attached below to help students with their works cited list.

In grades six through eight students are required to include a works cited list as well as parenthetical documentation with their research papers.  The MLA style of parenthetical documentation is used instead of footnotes and endnotes.  This style is used in most high school and colleges.  The style works well in giving credit to sources in our world of electronic information.   The document below titled "parenthetical documentation" will help students with this task.
