Ms. Roth’s Homework Assignments
My homework assignments, for the most part, are an extension of our classwork during the day. I assign math homework almost every day. If no homework is formally assigned, it is recomendended that the student studies that subject for about 15 minutes. They may review notes, create flash cards, go to the publisher's website, or do Study Island.
Most homework in my math and science classes are worth 10 points per assignment. If the work is turned in complete, I will award 10 points. If the work is incomplete, I will award 5 points. The student will have one day to make up the assignment. If they turn the completed assignment back in, they may earn an additional 2 points. If the assignment is turned in late, it must be complete, and I will award 5 points. If the student has a question on a problem, they need to ask someone for help, a parent, guardian, or older sibling. They may also check the math book website for additional help. That site is classzone.com. If several students are having difficulty with the same portion of the assignment, I will provide additional instruction to clarify content. I will have one large project each semester. I will give the students a handout with the project information and a tear off requiring a parent signature.
The students are required to read 20 minutes a day, per California State Standards. I have a classroom library where they may check out reading books. There is no traditional time limit on the book. I ask that they treat my books with respect. If they lose the book, I ask them to replace it.
As a general rule I do not have homework in art. If the student is falling behind, they may take the project home to complete the assignment on time. I will have one large project each semester in my 7th & 8th grade art classes.
If a student is going to miss class, it is their responsibility to get the day’s or week’s assignment so that they can stay on task. This information may be obtained from the website or a fellow classmate.
