GRADING SCALE

Sarasota County's grading scale is

80-89                  B

70-79                  C

60-69                  D

 ABSENCES/TARDIES

Please make sure to send in a note before or after an absence or tardy explaining why your child missed school.  Make-up work will be sent home upon your child's return.  Unexcused absences and tardies will be recorded on the report card.

FRIDAY  FOLDERS

A Friday Folder with your child's agenda book will be sent home every Friday with all of your child's papers from the week.  Please take the time to review your child's work.  This encourages your child to do his/her best, and gives you the opportunity to follow his/her progress.  Please keep the week's papers, sign the agenda book, and have your child return it with the folder on Monday.

HOMEWORK

It is your child's responsibility to complete and turn in his/her homework on time. All homework assignments should be recorded in your child's Tatum Ridge agenda book.    Please talk to your child about setting aside a certain time and place for doing homework.  Homework will be assigned EVERY Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with extra time given for larger projects.  Failure to complete homework will result in a loss of recess, and affect your student's overall grades.

BOOK CLUBS

Our class will be participating in a number of book clubs.  I will send home order forms in the Friday envelopes approximately once a month.  Please send in any orders by the stamped due date with A CHECK made out to the book club.  NO CASH PLEASE!!!

 VOLUNTEERS

Tatum Ridge is already fortunate to have many wonderful volunteers.  ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A PALS ON-LINE FORM.  If you filled one out last year, you are still required to update it this school year.  If you are planning to volunteer or chaperone field trips, it is imperative that you come to school and complete this on-line form.

 SNACK

We will be having snack each day, and it is your child's responsibility to bring his/her own snack.  Please send only nutritious snacks that can be enjoyed WHILE WE CONTINUE working.  Students should also bring bottled drinks (no soda) to have during snack and after P.E. or recess.  All drinks, snacks, and lunches can be kept in our classroom refrigerator. Please be sure to label everything.

WORK HABITS

Sarasota County has adopted a set of Work Habits to its curriculum.  They are as follows:

1. Stay on task.

2. Have a cooperative attitude.

3. Dress appropriately for school.

4. Complete homework on  time.

5. Have required materials.

6. Be on time for school.

7. No unexcused absences.

Please be aware that these work habits do affect your child's grade(s).    If your child is in danger of failing Work Habits,  a warning will be indicated on their midterm progress report.  If your child continues to experience problems, s/he will receive a failing grade in Work Habits.

BIRTHDAYS

You are welcome to send in treats for your child's birthday.  Please keep it simple.  Also, birthday invitations may be passed out in class, only if ALL students are invited.  Otherwise, please send them by mail.  This will prevent hurt feelings.

CLASS CODE OF CONDUCT

In order to reinforce the county's work habits, I have set certain expectations that I will emphasize throughout the year:

·       Treat others with respect

·       Act responsibly

·       Come to school prepared

·       Always do quality work

·       Follow directions

·       Work quietly

The behavior your child chooses affects the outcome s/he experiences. Possible consequences for not following these expectations include:

· Verbal warning

· Time out (in or out of class)

· Loss of privileges (including recess)

· Note or indication in agenda book

· Phone call home

· Office intervention

MEDICATIONS

As per Tatum Ridge's school policy, ALL medications (including non prescription) must be taken to the Health Room.  I am unauthorized to give a child any medication.
