How will I know what my child is doing in science?
CHECK YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA! It is filled in by your child each day. If all else fails, check this site, or email me. Back to Top What type of homework assignments are given? Homework is designed to introduce, review, and reinforce science concepts and skills. Homework assignments include text book reading, written assignments, diagramming and labeling structures, lab reports, and interpreting science literature. The amount and length of time required for completion will vary with the assignments. When your child has a BIG assignment, like a lab report or project they will be given extended time to complete it. It is important, however, that your child keeps up with the material by going over the notes, handouts, etc from the day EACH NIGHT. That way they will not fall behind. Back to Top What should I do if I don't understand something? Come see me...PLEASE! I want you to be successful. It makes me very sad when I find out that a student doesn't understand a concept because they never asked for help! I know that it is hard sometimes to admit that you don't understand something....but how else will you learn? Also, often if you have a question that means someone else has the same question..so PLEASE don't be afraid to come and get help. Back to Top What supplies must students bring to class every day? Students must bring their homework, science binder, textbook, pencils, colored pencils, and assignment notebook to class daily. Back to Top Does neatness count on assignments? Yes! I won't hesitate to ask you to redo a paper that's sloppy, stained, has holes in it, or is disorganized. Take time to make your assignments something you're proud to have. Back to Top How easy is it for me to earn an "A" in your class? VERY EASY! As long as you pay attention, do the work I assign you (on time), and study for all tests/quizzes you can easily earn an A in my class. Back to Top I forgot my homework/assignment! What should I do? If it is at home, turn it in tomorrow for half credit. Remember: HALF credit is worth twice as much as ZERO credit, so get the work in! If it is in your locker, turn it in after school for half credit. You may not go to your locker during class to get it. If it is a large project, it will go down one grade for being late. Back to Top Can I go get a drink of water? Not unless I see a doctor's note letting me know that you have a special case requiring frequent water stops. Back to Top What is the best way for my parent to contact you? Email is a great way. You can just click on the appropriate icon in the upper right corner of this webpage. I can't usually take phone calls during school hours, but you may leave a message and I will return your call. Back to Top Do I HAVE to take notes? YES, you do! I prefer that students use the Cornell format as taught in class. Back to Top
