5th Grade Liturgical Calendar Project
All the info. you need for your project
Project Instructions Below you will find all of the information and web links you will need to complete this project. Use the information here and the information in your packet to complete this calendar project. Take home the technology survey and have your parents fill it out with you. Your parents must also sign it on the bottom. This survey lets Mr. Rickbeil know what equipment you have available at home, because you will probably need to use a computer at home to finish the project. For an additional copy of the survey, click here to download the survey in MS Word. Complete the worksheet on the Liturgical Calendar dates. You must use all of these dates in your liturgical calendar, and you will lose points in your project for any dates that you do not have. To find these dates, you will need to use the information in your copy book, your planner, and the web sites listed below. HELPFUL WEB SITES FOR HOLY DAYS HELPFUL WEB SITES FOR OTHER HOLIDAYS | STEP 3 | Download your template | Click on one of the links below to download the calendar template in Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 form. Once you download the file, save it to your flash drive. When you finish, open your file, and you can begin working. TEMPLATES AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD | STEP 4 | Decorate your template | After you open up your file, fill in the months and days of the year. The template itself is plain and looks pretty boring, so feel free to change the fonts and designs to make it look like you want it to look like. During this step, you will need to label all months, and number the days of all the months. You may wish to consult your student planner or another calendar to be sure you have the correct number of days for each month. When you finish numbering all of the days, merge the remaining cells in the top and bottom rows together. | STEP 5 | Color your seasons | After you set up your calendar, you will need to color in the seasons of the Church year. You must choose an appropriate color for each season, and use borders and shading to fill in each box with that color. After your seasons are colored, now go through the process of labeling each of the days from your sheet. Be careful as you do this, as you will likely need to change font colors or make your font smaller to get it to fit in the boxes that you have. As you label each of your days, be sure that your spelling is correct, as you will lose points for misspelled holy days. | STEP 7 | Add clip art to months | Once your calendar dates are in, you can add one clip art picture to each month on your calendar. Make sure that your clip art isn’t too big, as it will throw off the rest of your calendar. Choose clip art that fits the holidays and holy days you have already labeled. | STEP 8 | Add clip art to days (extra credit) | Are you up for an additional challenge? If you are, add little clip art images to the holy days you have selected in your calendar. To do this, you will need to make them tiny so that they will fit, but it will add a nice touch to your calendar. Students that add clip art to all of their holy days will receive 5 additional extra-credit points. Use the checklist in your packet to make sure you are ready to turn your project in. | STEP 10 | Print your calendar | You will need to print your calendar project at home, because we do not have a color printer for you to use at school. Once you print it, you are ready to turn it in. When it is done, you will have a nice calendar to remind you of the important days of the Church year, as well as your own year. If you cannot print this and turn it in, see Mr. Rickbeil ahead of time to see if you can e-mail it. You cannot just e-mail Mr. Rickbeil without asking ahead of time
