How to complete your Saint Project
Below you will find all of the instructions to complete your Saint project. If you're looking over this for the first time, don't worry! We're going to go over this in class! Project Instructions Below you will find all of the information and web links you will need to complete your saint project. Make use of the links for research and bibliography information in this page, and it will direct you on how to complete your project. We will choose saints in class. Each student will choose their own saint to research. | STEP 2 | Fill out the technology survey | Take the technology survey home and have your parents sign it. This tells Mr. Rickbeil that you have the software to complete parts of your project at home. The survey will be graded, and you will receive a homework slip if you do not bring the survey back on-time. If you need an extra technology survey, check the PCR parent portal. | STEP 3 | Research the library | We will do this in class. Look for books and encyclopedia articles about your saint, and take notes as you read them. You won’t need full books about your saint, but articles in books about saints and encyclopedias will work very well for you. In your project, you will need to use at least one book or encyclopedia. While you research, you will need to fill out your research and sources packets. | STEP 4 | Research the internet | We will do this in class, and you will need to spend some time doing this at home. There are many great resources available on the internet. In fact, you may find hundreds of web sites with information about your saint. When you research the internet, be careful of what you find, as not all web sites will give accurate information. Below, you will find a list of helpful links that will help you complete your project. The best links are found at the top. HELPFUL WEB SITES | STEP 5 | Complete your packets | Before you write a sentence in your report, you will need to complete your research and sources packets. The research packet is green, and helps you keep track of the information that you will need to write your paper. The sources packet is blue, and helps you keep track of all of the sources that you use. If you lost any of these packets, check the PCR parent portal. For best results, keep track of this information as you complete steps 3 and 4. If you have to go back to the library, you will be missing pieces of your information. If you don’t complete your sources packet, you’ll be plagiarizing information! | STEP 6 | Write or type your rough draft | When you finish your research, you will need to create a rough draft. Your draft will be three paragraphs, and will consist of specific information in each paragraph. Each paragraph corresponds to the information on one sheet of your research packet. Paragraph One: About Your saint (Write 5 or more sentences) -
The name of your saint -
When your saint was born -
When your saint died -
Where your saint lived -
When your saint's feast day is in the Church year -
Representations or symbols of your saint -
What your saint is the patron of Paragraph Two: Your saint’s Life (Write 10 or more sentences) -
Describe the life story of your saint -
Make sure that all events are in the order of their life -
If you like, you may write this information in more than one paragraph Paragraph Three: Reflect on your Saint (Write 5 or more sentences) | STEP 7 | Revise your rough draft | We will revise our rough drafts in class, but you will also need to revise your drafts while you work at home. Your report will be graded for spelling and grammar, so you will need to check your work several times. By completing your rough draft on-time, you will have plenty of help from your classmates at revising your paper. | STEP 8 | Type your final copy | After you have revised, revised, and revised, you are now ready to type out your final copy. Make sure that you use al of the information that is indicated in the rough draft outline above. You must make sure that you are using Microsoft Word to type your copy of the report. | STEP 9 | Type your bibliography | Use the MLA citation generator to make sure you include every source that you used, or else you are plagiarizing information. The links on this web page will direct you to a site that will help you format your bibliography in MLA style. MLA CITATION GENERATOR LINKS (from palomar.edu) | STEP 10 | Print and save your project | Your paper with the bibliography will be due in class, and you will need to submit a printed copy. Hand-written copies will not be accepted. If you cannot print your report for any reason, you may e-mail it to Mr. Rickbeil at fill in. In addition, you will need to save your report on your flash drive, and will bring your flash drive in to class to complete steps 11 and 12. | STEP 11 | Turn it into a web page | Using the following steps, you’ll be able to change your report into a fully-functioning web page, which may be put on Mr. Rickbeil’s site on the internet. To do so, you will need to complete the following steps: · Take your name off of your project. (named projects cannot be posted) · Give your page a different-colored background and make your text easy to read against the background. · Insert a link back to the saints project page. · Add any other colorful effects or pictures that you like. You are graded on your page being colorful, but not distracting. | STEP 12 | Save your web page | When you finish your effects, save your web page to your flash drive. You will have to save your page as a single-file web page (.mht) file, or it will not work on the internet. When you save your project, turn it in to Mr. Rickbeil in class, and you will finally be done!
