Life Skills

What is life skills? In all honesty, I wish I had a quarter for every time I heard that question. Life skills class is a combination of several different subject areas, including health, science, and religion. Many of these content areas cross paths in life skills class, making the class content pretty unique. In 5th and 6th grade life skills, we cover topics such as study skills, virtues and values, bullying, nutrition, drug education, and family life. All life skills classes are single-gender, and meet once a week, either preceding or following physical education. 5th grade boys meet 1st period on Monday morning, while 6th grade boys meet 7th period on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Rickbeil teaches 5th and 6th grade boys, while Mr. Wilson teaches 7th and 8th grade boys. Life skills runs differently than religion classes in a lot of ways. Many of the classes include open discussion about topics, and occasionally we run leadership activities in the middle of class. Because of the nature of what we cover, it's a benefit to be able to discuss each topic directly as it relates to the lives of adolescent boys. Class is set up so that everyone can feel welcome and comfortable participating in class discussions. From this page, check the links to individual pages for the 5th and 6th grade boys. These web pages will be built during the school year as topics and web site connections gradually come up.
