Get ready to use your power tools!

Wrench set?  Check.  Screwdriver?  Check.  Hammer?  Check?  Morality?  Huh?  We may rarely think of them, but God often gives us a tool box full of intangible things to carry with us throughout our lives.  Just as you wouldn't think of driving without spare, fixing something without a hammer, or going shopping without a cell phone (yes, times have changed), you don't want to go through life without God's tool box.  With graduation and high schools coming in the next year, this class focuses on instructing eighth graders about the tools that they will carry with them throughout high school, as well as the rest of their lives.

What kind of tools are we talking about?  First, students will learn how morality is a great compass that God gives us to navigate our lives. The rest of the year focuses on tools related to morality, such as reverence, humility, respect for authority, value for life, truth, and social justice. Use these well, and happiness will follow.  Use these poorly, and it will be life trying to fix a pencil with a sledgehammer.  So clean out that tool box, sharpen those tools, and be ready to learn to use the greatest toolbox ever provided to us in life!

Units in this class include:

  • An Introduction to Morality
  • Free Will
  • The Divine: Commandments 1-3
  • Authority: Commandment 4
  • Life: Commandment 5
  • Justice: Commandments 7 and 10
  • Truth: Commandment 8
NOTE: Commandments 6 and 9 are primarily covered through Family Life curriculum in life skills.

Highlights of this class include:

  • Many of the most amazing class discussions you'll ever see, as students discuss and debate several moral dilemmas.
  • Learning notetaking skills while using Microsoft OneNote.
  • Two morality-based card games, which simulate life and make for exciting classroom discussion.
  • Analyzing the movie The Truman Show to learn about God's gift of free will.
