"Go Fish" in Fifth Grade Religion!

Just as Jesus called his disciples from a lake thousands of years ago, God is calling everyone to take their part in the Church!  In fifth grade, students will learn to "Go Fish" by exploring many of the traditions and practices of the Catholic Church.  The class focuses on the seven Sacraments, and students will get the chance to see the Sacraments with hands-on experiences and learn the importance of each one.  We will also spend extra time studying the Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the liturgical year, and the rosary.  Through it all, students will be challenged to answer Jesus calling them in their lives, and "Go Fish" by using their gifts and talents by serving God in the Church.

Units in this class include:

  • The Church
  • The Saints
  • Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist)
  • Sacraments of Healing (Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick)
  • Sacraments of Service (Matrimony and Holy Orders)
  • The Liturgical Year
  • The Rosary

Highlights of this class include:

  • Several computer projects, including a blog about the Sacraments and their Liturgical Calendar projects
  • The annual toucan wedding, complete with marriage ceremony and reception
  • The opportunity to receive Reconciliation for the first time, or the first time in a little while
