VOICE has been working to incubate a student-led idea to create club activities for computer and video games, digital imaging, and productivity tools in the district.  This aligns nicely with the following building council goals.  We are also experimenting with some pilot activities in each building.

Senior High

  • Increase the number and type of Science, Math and Technology related experiences for students.
  • Provide integrated experiences that foster an appreciation for differences and diversity.
  •  Implement initiatives that focus on character development and foster the social and emotional growth of our students.

Activities include working with a student team on a grant proposal to acquire some computer hardware, video game consoles, and software.  We look forward to reporting a successful update in April!

Intermediate Building

  • Create a plan to maximize the use of technological resources available to the Intermediate School.
  • Investigate the feasibility of expanding club opportunities for students in the Intermediate Building.

A recent Intermediate Building student survey rated video and computer games as a top area of interest.

We opened the Nintendo Wii bowling alley on March 14 with some parent donated equipment to VOICE.  School Psycologist - Mark Behan has assumed ownership of this donation for further research with the kids!

We are about to launch the Xbox time machine project in Mrs. Sheridan's class as a volunteer after-school activity.  The activity involves an imaginary time machine that is created while the kids are hooking up their video game console.  They uncover the ability to transport themselves, in teams of two, back in time to February 4, 2007 and play in the Super Bowl.  Although Indianapolis beat Chicago 29 -17, we will have a group of Excel scorekeepers tracking, analyzing, and graphing the new series of scores.  Another group of students will act as reporters and write a story in Word, while our digital photographers are taking pictures of our players and creating images that cut and paste our kids into Colts and Bear’s player uniforms.  The goal is to enable a fun, social activity that leverages a cross-section of alternative technologies.

Primary Building

Make sure to stop by the VOICE table at the Primary Building Health and Wellness Fair on Wednesday, March 28th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  We'll be located in the auditorium and our Nintendo Wii bowling alley will be open for business!  For any participant that bowls a strike or spare, they can enter into our raffle for a copy of Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2007!
