Guidelines for Spanish – Mrs. Morrice

1st - 3rd Grades

Spanish for these grade levels concentrates on units of vocabulary in order to give students basic skills in learning a language. Tests are at the end of each unit (approximately every 3 - 4 weeks). Students will know about an upcoming test the week before. In 3rd Grade, students have a homework assignment for each unit.

In the 1st and 2nd Grades, tests are 50% of the grade and class participation is the other 50%. In the 3rd Grade, tests are 50%, class participation is 40%, and homework is 10% of the grade.

4th - 5th Grades

Text and Workbook - Viva el Espanol: Hola

Homework - 10%

Class Participation - 40%

Tests - 50%

Class Participation is based on positive participation in class. This includes actively following the lesson and allowing other students to learn. Therefore, good behavior is expected and will affect the grade. I also expect students to bring all materials to class.

Homework and tests are generally announced a week ahead of time so that those who are absent have the time to receive the assignment and be prepared the day the homework is due or the test is given. Homework will also affect the effort grade.

Because of the Oral and Listening sections of the tests – and because my schedule is not the same every day – students need to make up tests after school on Monday or Friday. Please do this in a timely manner.

6th - 8th Grades

Text and Workbook – Realidades

Homework – 10%

Class Participation – 40%

Tests and Quizzes – 50%

Class Participation is based on positive participation in class. This includes actively following the lesson and allowing other students to learn. Therefore, good behavior is expected and will affect the grade. I also expect students to bring all materials to class.

Each chapter in this text has two homework assignments and two tests. The first part of the chapter is vocabulary practice and the second part introduces and assesses grammar structures. At times, the tests will include listening, reading, writing, and oral sections.

Homework assignments and tests are generally announced a week ahead of time so that those who are absent have the time to receive the assignment and be prepared the day the homework is due or the test is given. Homework will also affect the effort grade.

Because of the Oral and Listening sections of the tests – and because my schedule is not the same every day – students need to make up tests after school on Monday or Friday. Please be sure the tests are made up in a timely fashion since they feed into each other.
