Information Literacy Instruction 1st grade - lessons focus primarily on the ways specific topics are presented in nonfiction, historical fiction, science fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy fiction, and folklore. We model and practicd good listening and reading behaviors. We also practice taking good care of books, appropriate library behaviors and following the school rules of being respectful, responsible and safe. Instruction also reinforces comprehension and thinking skills learned and practiced in the classroom.
2nd grade - lessons focus on a wide many variety of topics such as trees, deserts, friendship, bravery, animals, and how they are presented in a variety of nonfiction, historical fiction, science fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy fiction, and folklore. Instruction also reinforces comprehension and thinking skills learned and practiced in the classroom. We continue to practice taking good care of books, appropriate library behaviors and following the school rules of being respectful, responsible and safe.
3rd grade - lessons focus on the many skills necessary to become independent library users and skilled users of information. 3rd graders will be practicing keyword note taking, using a dictionary and learn how to use an encyclopedia during the research process in addition to an introduction to keyboarding. We continue to practice taking good care of books, appropriate library behaviors and following the school rules of being respectful, responsible and safe.
4th grade - lessons continue to focus on the skills necessary to become independent and successful information users. Science and Washington State history/geography are the integrating themes with classroom lessons. 4th graders are introduced to and practice using the many different reference tools and how they help us find, evaluate and use information. 4th graders also review keyboarding. We continue to practice taking good care of books, appropriate library behaviors and following the school rules of being respectful, responsible and safe.
5th grade - lessons continue to focus on the skills necessary to become independent and successful information users. U. S. history is the integrating theme with classroom lessons. 5th graders continue to practice using the many reference tools and creation of a bibliography as they work through the research process. We continue to practice taking good care of books, appropriate library behaviors and following the school rules of being respectful, responsible and safe.
6th grade - lessons focus on more intricate information access, evaluation and use. Ancient Civilizations are the integrating theme with classroom lessons. 6th graders continue to practice using the many reference tools as they study a variety of Ancient Civilizations. We continue to practice taking good care of books, appropriate library behaviors and following the school rules of being respectful, responsible and safe. Library Mission: To ensure that all students and staff are effective users of information and ideas.
