Theme 2 Surprise

We will be working in this theme for the next  4  weeks

Reading- Theme 2 Surprise!

  End of October  we will be giving the children their first theme test. I will be sending home some ways to help review with your child.

Theme 2 Week 1

Phonics Skills- consonants d,w,l,x: short o words as in octopus

High frequency words- five,four,in,once,three,two,upon,what

Theme 2 week 2

Phonics skills- consonants y,k,v: short e words as in egg

high frequency words- do, for,I,is,me,said,you

Theme2 Week 3

Phonics skills- q,j,z:short u  words as in umbrella

Hi frequency words: are,away,does,he,live,pull,they,where

There will be a phonics and high frequency word recognition test after week 3

Comprehension Skills to work on:

Noting details (details give important information )

REREADING  a story for understanding and fluency

Differences between realism and fantasy

Story structure (character,setting,problem, solution)

Summarizing a story(includes only the most important parts of the story) When summarizing a story you should include the characters, the setting of when and where, state the porblem and how the main character tries to solve it.

After this theme the students will be taking a theme test which will assess phonics, decoding words, comprehension skills and high frequency words taught during the theme.
